Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice describes what information Cumberland County Released Inmates receives, how that information is used, and when it may be shared. It applies while visitors browse Cumberland release-record resources, follow links to Piedmont Regional Jail or Virginia agencies, use a partner search tool, or send a message. Using the site means accepting the practices stated here. An outside government portal, search provider, analytics service, or advertiser follows its own privacy terms once it receives information on its system.

Information You Submit

Partner Search Terms

A name, location, or other term entered into a search tool is sent to the third-party provider that operates that tool. Cumberland County Released Inmates does not store or log those search terms on its own system. The search provider's privacy policy governs the query after it is transmitted.

Messages Sent to Us

If you email or use a contact form, we retain the message and the contact details you provide so we can read and answer it. We do not share a message outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law. Do not send confidential court, medical, juvenile, or corrections documents. Official records belong with Piedmont Regional Jail, the Cumberland Sheriff's Office, a court clerk, VADOC, or the agency responsible for them.

Technical Data Collected Automatically

Routine server, analytics, and service logs may collect technical details when a page loads. These details help operate and protect the service and show broad patterns of use. They may include:

  • The visitor's Internet Protocol address
  • Browser name and version
  • Device category and operating system
  • Pages viewed and time spent on them
  • The referring website, when supplied
  • Date and time stamps for requests

Cookie Controls

Cookies and similar browser storage help show how visitors move through the site and whether features work as intended. A browser can reject or delete cookies. Blocking them may cause some search, preference, analytics, or advertising features to work differently.

How Information Is Used

Collected information supports a limited set of operational purposes. We may use it to:

  • Keep pages available and responsive
  • Send a search request to the selected partner service
  • Understand which Cumberland County resource pages are useful
  • Detect errors, abuse, and other technical problems
  • Present advertising that may reflect visitor interests

Privacy on Linked Services

Links may lead to the Cumberland Sheriff's Office, Piedmont Regional Jail, Virginia courts, VADOC, VINE, federal or immigration resources, legal information, and outside search tools. Those sites are separate. Their privacy notices and data practices apply after a visitor follows a link or submits information to them.

Advertising partners may use their own cookies or related technology to measure activity across websites and select interest-based ads. That collection occurs through the partner's systems, not through a Cumberland County government records system operated here.

Who May Receive Data

We do not sell personal data. Information may still reach service providers or public authorities when needed for the functions described in this notice. Those recipients can include:

  • Search partners that process a submitted query
  • Analytics providers that measure site use
  • Advertising networks that deliver or measure ads
  • Law-enforcement agencies or other government bodies acting under a valid legal order

Security Has Practical Limits

Reasonable, commonly used safeguards are applied to information under our control. No website, Internet connection, storage service, or transmission method can be guaranteed secure in every circumstance. We therefore cannot promise that a breach, loss, interception, or unauthorized access will never occur.

Use Is Limited to Adults

This service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. A parent or legal guardian who believes a minor submitted information may use the Contact Us page to request its deletion.

Your Privacy Choices

Subject to applicable law and the nature of the information held, a visitor may ask us to:

  • Provide a copy of personal data maintained about that visitor
  • Correct personal information that is inaccurate
  • Erase information when a valid deletion right applies
  • Stop certain processing where an applicable opt-out right exists

These choices concern data maintained by this private site. Requests for Virginia public records, corrections files, or changes to an agency record must go to the government custodian. Virginia FOIA, Code ยง2.2-3700 et seq., governs access to covered public records and does not turn this site into the custodian of Cumberland or VADOC records.

Changes to This Notice

This Privacy Notice may be revised as services or legal requirements change. An updated version will be posted on this page and will show a new effective date.
