It remains linked to that arrest episode after the person leaves Piedmont Regional Jail, but the image alone says nothing about how the case ended. Bond release means the case is still pending. Dismissal is a court result. A transfer means custody moved to another agency. A photo also cannot show whether the person is now free, supervised, confined elsewhere, or fully discharged.
Virginia law treats an adult routine booking photograph as a defined public-record category, subject to limits. Virginia Code §2.2-3706(A)(1) requires release on a proper request unless disclosure would jeopardize an active felony investigation. Broader jail files can fall under other rules, and sealed, expunged, or juvenile material receives different protection. This focused provision is why requesting the exact intake photograph is better than asking broadly for an entire incarceration file.

Cumberland Release Mugshot Channels
Use the source that matches the custody event. Cumberland adults are booked at Piedmont Regional Jail, a regional facility in Farmville. The Cumberland Sheriff's Office creates arrest and transport records, but it does not run a separate county jail roster. VADOC records concern a state sentence. The Virginia State Police registry covers only people required by law to register. Those sources must not be blended into one supposed Cumberland released-mugshot feed.

Virginia VINE may show a feed-dependent status for one PRJ record, but its public documentation does not promise a mugshot or a fixed period of released-result access. It is a notice and custody-status service, not the booking-photo archive. Use VINE to corroborate that the named PRJ custody event ended, then use the jail record request for the actual intake image.

Request Cumberland Booking Photos
Piedmont Regional Jail is the first custodian for its routine intake photograph and booking file. Send a narrow request to PRJ at 801 Industrial Park Road, P.O. Drawer 388, Farmville, VA 23901, or call 434-392-1601 to confirm the correct records contact and delivery method. PRJ did not publish a dedicated FOIA form, records email, or photo fee in the material reviewed. Do not invent one. Ask for electronic delivery and an estimate before costs exceed a stated limit.
- Identify the adult by full legal name, approximate booking date, booking number if known, and Cumberland as the arresting or committing locality.
- Name the exact record: “the adult routine initial-intake booking photograph” for that booking. Add the cumulative booking/release entry only if release details are also needed.
- Request an electronic copy and an advance cost estimate. Virginia permits actual reasonable search, supply, and duplication costs.
- Allow redaction of exempt fields and ask the custodian to cite the law for any withheld part.
- If PRJ is not the custodian, ask which public body holds the image. Contact the Sheriff only for a sheriff-created arrest or transport photo.
Virginia requests may be made by mail, fax, email, in person, or phone and need not use the word “FOIA.” A written request helps preserve its scope. The usual response period is five working days. The agency may use a written seven-working-day extension when production is not practical in the first period. A deposit may be required if estimated charges exceed $200.

Cumberland State Record Photos
The VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator may display a photograph for a person in state custody or state supervision. It is updated daily. Search with the first three letters of the first name and full last name, or a seven-digit VADOC number. A VADOC image belongs to the state offender profile, not necessarily the earlier PRJ booking. A person released locally on bond and never placed under VADOC authority may not appear.
Fully discharged people are another limit. VADOC does not promise that inactive former inmates remain available in the public locator. A missing result cannot prove that a photo never existed or that the person has been discharged. The person's state release packet, sentencing court, or an authorized inactive-record request may be more useful when a public profile is gone.
The Virginia State Police registry search also contains photographs for qualifying registrants, and its official information notes that some records may lack images.
Registry presence is offense-specific and is not a general Cumberland County jail-release record, so the image must be described only in that statutory context.
Cumberland Historical Mugshot Sources
Official agency news can preserve an image after a live roster entry is gone. PRJ's official news layer is its blog, while the Cumberland Sheriff and Virginia State Police may publish incident notices. Local news can also retain a photo and case timeline. Yet a caption may describe an arrest rather than a conviction, dismissal, release, or present location. Always check the image date and credited source.
Commercial mugshot and aggregation pages are less dependable. They may copy old arrest data, omit the outcome, or conceal where the image came from. No commercial site is linked or endorsed. If one surfaces a possible match, use it only to identify the booking agency or date, then seek the official record from PRJ, the Sheriff, VADOC, a court, or the relevant public agency. Never treat rank in a web search as proof that the record is current.
Federal custody has its own limit. Bureau of Prisons locator results do not provide mugshots, and the U.S. Marshals Service generally does not disclose prisoner mugshots. A person who disappeared from PRJ under its USMS contract may have transferred into federal custody. That is not a reason to manufacture or substitute a photo from an unrelated site.

Cumberland Released Mugshot Policy
PRJ offers no released-photo archive. The local records path is therefore unusually clear: identify the adult booking and request the routine initial-intake photograph under §2.2-3706(A)(1). The law permits temporary withholding if release would jeopardize an active felony investigation. It does not make every part of a jail file open. Juvenile photos and case details must not be routed through this adult process, and the Piedmont Regional Juvenile Detention Center has no adult-style public release search.
Retention and display are also different. Virginia's GS-08 schedule provides a three-year retention period after separation for individual inmate incarceration files, which may include photographs. Cumulative booking and release records are kept longer, but that does not create a public photo gallery. An official record may remain in agency custody even after it disappears from a live web interface. Ask for the existing record rather than demanding a new profile or gallery entry.
Cumberland Mugshot Sealing and Removal
Sealing and expungement affect access to the underlying record. Expungement means a court process that removes qualifying records from ordinary access under the governing law. A sealed or expunged record is not made open again because an old screenshot or copied image remains online. The correct court for Cumberland felony dispositions and expungement matters is Circuit Court, while misdemeanor proceedings generally begin in General District Court. The court order and the record custodian control the official response.
